Monisa Angell has spent her career playing the viola in orchestras, concert halls and in Nashville's recording studios.
Her early years were spent studying and performing classical music in high profile places with various ensembles. Highlights include summers at the Aspen Music Festival, studies with the Clevelend Quartet at Eastman School of Music and a year with the St. Louis Symphone Orchestra (including recordings of American music) under the direction of Leonard Slatkin.
Since coming to Nashville in 1991, she has worked with the Nashville String Machine and with smaller recording ensembles. She has also served as Principal Violist with the Nashville Symphony, and Assistant Principal Violist and founding member of the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. In 1995, she chose to resign from the Nashville Symphony Orchestra to focus on chamber music and recording projects full time. This has allowed her to perform and record with many artists such as Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton, and with jazz, R/B, and pop artists and the never ending stream of young independent artists trying to make their way. It is this involvement with all types of music that has driven her to speak up for musicians' welfare concerning the evolution of digital technology and all of it's remifications. She works on these issues with the Recording Musicians Association as an International Executive Board member and has participated in Grammy's on the Hill in Washington, DC to push for intellectual property rights protection and radio airplay royalties, which both require action by Congress.
Monisa is married to violinist David Angell, and has two wonderful young children.
